![]() If you are rural dsl, do not purchase this system unless you know the tech specs yourself. When I purchased, I shared my upload/download speeds and advertised Mbs. I suspected there would be an issue from the start (the reason I paid for professional installation) but let customer service bamboozle me into 3 years of utter hell. Now, nearly 3 years later, I have one camera that provides about 8 seconds of video per event for 10 bucks a month. Called at the near one year mark, spent 2 hours on phone with customer service and finally got app to work. Waited patiently for months, called customer service, told to wait again for update. Service rep assured me to wait for update, it would fix all. I get about 8 secs of motion activated video on camera then video failure. I installed base, keypad, and one camera. I purchased professional installation because I live rural, with unimpressive internet speeds. After being charged/receiving, I was informed that professional installation was not available at my location and was assured that I could do myself with SimpliSafe support by phone. They charged me, shipped the product with a scheduled installation. Ordered over 500 bucks worth of SimpliSafe security products approximately 2.5 years ago, with professional installation included. The company also insists on continuing to charge you the monthly fee for monitoring while their faulty equipment isn't working, even though they are no longer able to provide the service they are charging for, due to their equipment being faulty and randomly failing. But if you leave on vacation and it randomly stops working and deletes all your devices as it frequently does, then it is useless until you get back from vacation. It is advertised and I purchased it because they describe it as a system you can use away from home, not only while home. However, because they cannot fix problems remotely and the system has a lot of problems, then it isn't really useful at all if you ever want to leave your house and have it protected. Obviously the point of spending hundreds on equipment and paying a monthly fee was so that I could leave my house and have it monitored and protected. The only solution the company provided was to go back home and reset the base station manually. ![]() Then while on vacation it happened again and my system was useless and not able to work at all while I was not home. More than once my system has randomly just quit working requiring me to call tech support and then spend a day reinstalling every device and camera. The system is unreliable and cannot be fixed remotely so is useless as a security system when you travel. This seems like a common complaint since the outdoor camera dropped more than a year ago but they’ve done nothing to fix it. The option to turn off motion detection when your system is disarmed is available for indoor cameras, so it seems absolutely wild to me that this isn’t an option for outdoor cams. Meanwhile, the camera is almost constantly recording and burning through battery like crazy. So if I’m in my back yard and my system is off, I’m still getting pinged by non-stop “camera detected motion” notifications on my phone. Your motion detection is either on or off and cannot change with system state. On the software side, they have very limited settings available for outdoor cameras. There is no guidance for how to get unstuck here. No glare, trying every possible brightness level on my phone. Their cameras inexplicably fail to read the QR code required for setup even under ideal conditions. But their components are sadly unreliable and they have software issues that seem painfully easy to fix. I never had to deal with a hard wired system, so maybe I’m being harsh here. Nice to be able to control the system from my phone.
